Jim Vos – CEO & Head of Research
Jim has 25 years of fund of funds, research and derivatives experience at Credit Suisse in New York, London and Tokyo. Jim joined Aksia as a founding Partner at its inception in October 2006 where he is CEO and Head of Research at Aksia. Prior to Aksia, Jim was responsible for the investment management of Credit Suisse’s Hedge Fund Investment Group which combined the funds of funds investment management of the firm’s investment bank and asset management divisions with over $8 billion of AUM. In 2006 the firm combined its Alternative Capital Division with the investment activities of the firm’s Private Bank, at which point, and until he resigned in March 2006, Jim was responsible for Manager Research and Selection for the combined groups which had funds of hedge funds AUM of more than $10 billion.
Jim started his career in 1985 when he joined Credit Suisse’s Research Department’s Portfolio Strategies group where he worked on portfolio dedications, immunizations and total return analysis. In 1987, Jim joined the research department in Tokyo where he ran a fixed income research desk. In 1991, he relocated to New York and joined Credit Suisse Financial Products, a derivatives trading boutique. From 1991 to 1997 Jim was responsible for structuring and marketing for the asset management, hedge fund and insurance areas. In 1998 Jim launched the Sapic-98 Fund of Hedge Funds, Credit Suisse’s first institutional multi-strategy fund of hedge funds, with AUM at launch of $100 million which eventually grew to $1.3 billion. In 2000 Jim transferred to London where he managed the investment bank’s funds of hedge funds group as well as the Fund Linked Products business. In 2003 Jim took over responsibility for investment management for the firm’s Hedge Funds Investment Group.
Jim graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1985 with a B.A in Economics with distinction. Jim was recognized as Hedge Fund Consultant of the Year in June 2009 by Alternative Investment News.
