Manabu Washio – Head of Aksia Asia
Manabu has over 25 years of capital markets, derivatives and fund of hedge funds experience. Manabu joined Aksia in May 2007 as Head of Aksia Asia in Tokyo and is responsible for developing Aksia’s presence in Asia, managing Aksia’s Asia-based research professionals, and advising clients in Asia.
Prior to Aksia, Manabu was a Managing Director in the Equity Sales & Trading Department of Morgan Stanley Tokyo from 2002 to 2007, teaming up with external firms to introduce funds of hedge funds, hedge fund seeding, regional focused funds and private equity funds to Morgan Stanley. As of 2004, Manabu was responsible for managing the Equity Product Group, which included the Alpha Strategy Group, providing research to hedge funds, and the Equity Solutions Group, providing equity-related investment ideas to institutions. Manabu first joined the Equity Sales and Trading Department in 2000 as the Head of its Alternative Investment Group.
Prior to Morgan Stanley, Manabu worked for Credit Suisse First Boston from 1994 to 2000. He joined the CSFB Tokyo Financial Products department in 1994, focusing on developing derivative products. In 1996, he transferred to CSFB New York, where he structured and marketed credit derivatives. In 1998, he returned to Tokyo to focus on fund linked products and funds of hedge funds for institutional investors.
Manabu started his career in 1985 when he joined Daiwa Securities Japan, focusing on international investments and banking practices. Daiwa Securities provided Manabu with a scholarship to study at Harvard University, where he earned his M.B.A. in 1990. From 1990 to 1994, Manabu was responsible for establishing Daiwa Securities’ Derivatives Group and for structuring and marketing.
