Manabu Washio – Advisory Services - Asia
Manabu has 25 years of capital markets, derivatives, and fund-of-funds experience. Manabu graduated from the University of Oregon in 1985 with a B.B.A. in Business. In 1985, he joined Daiwa Securities Japan where he focused on international investments and banking practices. Daiwa Securities provided Manabu a scholarship to study at Harvard University, and in 1990, he graduated from Harvard Business School. From 1990 to 1994, Manabu was responsible for establishing Daiwa Securities Derivatives Group and for structuring and marketing. In 1994, he joined Credit Suisse Tokyo in its Financial Products department, where he focused on developing derivative products. In 1996, Manabu transferred to Credit Suisse New York, where he structured and marketed credit derivatives. In 1998, he returned to Tokyo to focus on fund-linked products and funds-of-funds for institutional investors. In 2000, Manabu joined the Equity Sales Trading Department of Morgan Stanley Tokyo as the head of its Alternative Investment Group, which teamed up with external firms to introduce funds such as funds-of-funds, hedge fund seeding, regional focus, and private equity funds. In 2002, Manabu was promoted to Managing Director, and in 2004, he took over responsibility for managing the Equity Product Group, which included the Alpha Strategy Group (providing research to hedge funds) and the Equity Solutions Group (equity-related investment ideas to institutions).
